The 'Misinformation Bill' to regulate speech on Social Media has been officially withdrawn by the Government. AACS is pleased to see ABC Online report that Communications Minister, Michelle Rowland has announced that there is 'no pathway to legislate this proposal through the Senate".
AACS were concerned about the potential impact on Christian schools, in particular the lack of clarity on the definition of "religious purpose" and the risk of over-censorship by social media companies and joined other faith groups in a submission to the Inquiry.
This is good news for the free dissemination of ideas in the public sphere - in particular religious speech and debate.
