NSW Religious Freedom and Equality

Good news! There have been some positive developments in New South Wales with the introduction of the Anti-Discrimination Amendment (Religious Freedoms and Equality) Bill 2020 which aims to protect religious freedoms through an amendment to the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

This Bill acts on the recommendations of the Federal Government's Ruddock Religious Freedom Review 2018, which recommended that New South Wales should amend their anti-discrimination laws to render it unlawful to discriminate on the basis of a person's "religious belief or activity".

A Joint Select Committee has been appointed to review the Bill and is inviting public submissions. AACS encourages NSW members to complete the Inquiry’s online questionnaire, indicating support for the Bill. The survey can be accessed via the following link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F8KFWXB and is available until 21 August 2020.  AACS will be providing a longer submission as well.
