The Law Reform Commission has released a Discussion Paper which outlines options and poses questions about changing Western Australia’s anti-discrimination laws. The Commmission have called for submissions in response to their Discussion Paper. These submissions will assist the LRC in preparing their report on potential updates to the Act, which will be handed to the Attorney-General.
AACS will be making a submission to the LRC and will focus on the retention of section 73 of the Act which exempts “religious” educational institutions from being subject to the Act for actions relating to employment, contracting and enrolment. It is our strongly-held view that these provisions are necessary to maintain your school’s distinctive Christian character and unique pedagogical approach.
Member schools are encouraged to consider making their own submissions via email to email@example.com by 29 October 2021.
