Disappointment with Proposed QLD Anti-Discrimination Legislation

The Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General have released the Anti-Discrimination Bill 2024 (the Bill) which has largely adopted all of the recommendations of the Building Belonging Report and committed to the introduction of legislation in this term of government.

AACS have been consulting with the Government since the Building Belonging Report was released and have been involved in roundtables and meetings with the Attorney-General to express our concerns about the recommendations which would have significant impacts upon Christian schools.

Vanessa Cheng, Executive Officer at AACS said "It is extremely disappointing to see that our feedback has not been taken on board by the Queensland Government and the proposed Bill will make it more difficult for Christian schools to justify employing Christian staff across all roles and have strong protections against potential claims of discrimination".

AACS and CSA have released a joint Media Release which you can read HERE.

AACS will be making a submission to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General. Queensland schools are also encouraged to make their own submission by 5pm on Friday 22 March 2024.
